CHOPIN'S HEART, SOUL AND SPIRIT
Pianist Maria Prokofieva will dedicate an entire piano recital to Frederic Chopin: Mazurkas, Nocturnes, Polonaises, Valses, Preludes, Scherzo.
Maria says: ‛Chopin is loved by musicians and music lovers from all over the world. His music is eternal and will always be. Chopin was a Polish composer and through my grandmother I myself have Polish descent. His music is full of Slavic feelings, intimate emotions and expressiveness that are immediately recognisable and unique to him.
His music touches your soul in a special way, like no other composer. His melodies go straight to your heart. His musical language is so poetic that no words are needed to tell it. He dedicated many pieces to his homeland, which he had to leave when he was 20 years old. National genres of Mazurka, Krakowiak, Polonaise and Polish folk themes were often used by him in his works, always bringing memories of his motherland.
This makes Chopin a very special composer in my heart. Especially today, when I can fully feel the message of his music. Sweet memories, tears, joy, pain, nostalgia and liberation all merge into one catharsis of emotions. And when you really feel it, you can tell and express so much as an artist through music.’
Maria Prokofieva is a beloved pianist who has her life and career in the Netherlands for the last 20 years.
