Jabal Mar Semaan is a mountain located near Hadath El Jebbeh in the North Governorate of Lebanon. It's known for its hiking trails, including one that starts from Al Mil and ascends towards the highlands of Hadath el Jebbeh. The mountain also features a strategic hill with panoramic views of the Tannourine reserve, Hadath, and other villages in the Bcharre district. 

The name Saint Simeon appeared for thr first time with the introduction of Christianity to El Jebbeh when Saint Simeon Stylite, missionary disciple of Saint Maroun, arrived to the region, to commermorate this Saint, the mountain took his name and shrine was built from more than 100 years for the same saint at the top of the mountain. Mount saint Simeon was neighbored by an essential passage for citizens and traders of Levant, Baalbeck, El Jebbeh and Lebanese Coast; this under recovery passage is known as “Damascus Road “in the present date.

Hadath el Jebbeh, also known as Hadad, and known locally as Hadid, is a town located in Bsharri District in the North Governorate of Lebanon. It was originally settled in 400 A.D. and is situated on a hill at an altitude of 1500 meters, overlooking the Kadisha valley.

The village is 94 km away from Lebanese Capital, Beirut, and 36 km away from Tripoli, the largest city in North Lebanon.

The Semitic root of Hadath means "the new", hence the name could mean "the new town.

Hadad was the northwest Semitic storm and rain god and the town could have had a temple dedicated to this god. And the popular tradition claims that the church dedicated to the saint patron of Hadath, Saint Daniel, was built on the remnants of a pagan temple.

Description of the trail:

The trail starts for Al Mil areas on the main road between Hadath el Jebbe and Tannourine. You will walk on an ascending dirt road on the footstep of Jabal Mar Semaan.
We will pass by the artificial lake of Hasroun ascending toward Qornet Al Arouss, the highest point of our hike (2150 m), then we will descend toward the peak of Mar Semaan visit the shrine and enjoy the unforgettable view of the sunset over the surrounding mountains. In times of clear weather, you can see Tripoli and the Palm Island.

After enjoying the sunset, we will descend the last 3 kms on a dirt road toward the road between Hadath el Jebbe and Tannourine. So, it's better to bring your headlights & torch. 

We cannot leave Hadath el Jebbe village without spending one hour in its historical old souk located in the middle of the town.

1- @ 2:00 pm: jal dib near DHL and Banque Libano Francaise facing the Canadian embassy (we can pick our hikers that live on our way)

2- @ 1:30 pm: near Al Amine Mosque downtown Beirut.

                 : 2:00 pm from Jal dib (plz be on time)

Hiking distance:
10 kms - level 5 moderate

Max min Elevations: 1700 m - 2150 m - 1700 m

Total hiking duration: 5 hours
Moving time: 4.5 hours

Required materials: hiking boots, backpack, hat, 3L of water, raincoat, sunglasses, sunscreen, healthy snacks, hiking stick, torch.

Fees: 20 USD (including transportation, guidance, giveaways, but does not include medical insurance)
