Summer in the Brandenburg province: Markus (Tucké Royale), a young trans person, is torn between longing for life in Berlin’s queer community and love for his grandmother and her partner, who are in need of care in the country.

NEUBAU is presented as part of the DEFA Film Library’s 12th Biennial Summer Film Institute, SCREENED ENVIRONMENTS: Intersections of Built, Natural and Social Spaces in East Germany, and in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Boston and the Stonewall Center at UMass Amherst.
