Before Sunset (The Before Trilogy)

In the second film of The Before Trilogy, Céline (Julie Delpy) surprises Jesse (Ethan Hawke) in Paris, mere hours before he's scheduled to fly back home.

Jesse, now an author, is wrapping up a European book tour, promoting a bestselling novel based on their whirlwind romance nine years earlier in Vienna. Céline, who works for an environmental organization, lives in Paris, and just so happened to see a poster for Jesse's book tour.

Faced with yet another ticking clock before a flight, the two walk through Paris, catching up on the the last nine years, comparing their differing accounts of Vienna, and exploring their feelings for each other, past and present.

Both released and taking place nine years after BEFORE SUNRISE, this sequel brought Jule Delpy on board as an official co-writer. The only film of the trilogy to take place in real time, BEFORE SUNSET most directly grapples with the passage of time and its thorny relationship with both the fallibility of memory and the changing tides of human emotion.
