Artist Demonstration with Suzanne DiSessa

Starting An Oil Painting: An Underpainting Demonstration, Followed by Question and Answer Period with Suzanne DiSessa at The Local Art Gallery on Sunday, June 1 from 1-3pm. $20, Registration required. Suitable for ages 12+ with adult accompaniment.

Suzanne will discuss the various approaches to starting an oil painting and demonstrate one method she practices most often of beginning an oil painting with a monochromatic mass and line sketch. Following the demonstration Suzanne will answer your questions about methods, materials, and resources she has knowledge about.

Artist Bio:

I am a Massachusetts-based self-taught artist painting in oils. When I am seeking calm and peace I turn to nature and my paints. Almost without exception my work is inspired by experiences in the landscape, and by objects from nature. I find refuge in the blue dome of the sky, a flowing river, or the habit of a tree bending to the light. I enjoy painting from life by setting up my own still lifes in my home studio, painting landscapes en plein air, and also from reference photos I capture while traveling.
