We’re thrilled to welcome talented textile artist Kate Findlay to Where Inspiration Blooms for this beautiful countryside-inspired fabric picture workshop.

Suitable for absolute beginners and experienced stitchers alike, this one-day class will guide you through creating a stunning 8” (20cm) fabric artwork inspired by wild flowers and meadow birds — ready to mount onto a canvas or board and display at home.

You’ll begin with a unique hand-dyed fabric background (provided), building texture and pattern using traditional wooden printing blocks. From there, you’ll layer bonded fabrics to create flowers, foliage and perhaps a bird, fixing them in place with raw-edge appliqué before bringing everything to life with hand or machine stitching.

Throughout the day you’ll explore:
• Building texture through block printing
• Creating depth with layered fabrics
• Raw-edge appliqué techniques
• Adding detail and personality with stitch
• How to mount and finish your piece professionally

Nearly all materials are included, though please check the “what to bring” list before booking if you’d like to use your own fabrics, threads or sewing machine. (Hand sewing is absolutely welcome — no machine required.)

Expect a relaxed, inspiring day immersed in fabric, colour and creativity — fuelled by tea and coffee from local favourites Two Spoons and plenty of homemade cake (with gluten-free options available).
