Led by much-loved local artist Zoe Duncan, this longer workshop offers the space to slow down and really look — to notice the subtle structure, colour and character of seasonal blooms, and to translate what you see into your own painted interpretation.

Working with freshly gathered flowers from the neighbouring Walled Garden on the Penn Estate, you’ll begin by exploring shape, form and composition, before being guided through the painting process step by step. Zoe will introduce both wet-on-wet techniques for soft, flowing colour and wet-on-dry methods for adding delicate detail, helping you build confidence as your painting develops.

There is no rush here. With time to settle into the process, this is a day designed for quiet focus and creative enjoyment — as much about the experience as the finished piece.

Zoe is known for her calm, encouraging teaching style, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels at ease, whatever their level of experience.

All materials are provided, and the workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those with more experience. You’re also very welcome to bring along flowers from your own garden if you’d like to work from something personal.

By the end of the day, you’ll leave with your own finished watercolour, along with new skills, a deeper appreciation for the natural world, and a sense of calm that lingers beyond the studio.
