Created in collaboration with Sam Slator of The Sewing Loft in Chesham, this relaxed and supportive introduction to sewing has quickly become a favourite within our community. It’s designed to take away the uncertainty, answer those long-held questions, and help you feel at ease with both your machine and the process.

Across two evening sessions, Sam will guide you through the essentials, from threading your machine and winding bobbins to understanding different stitches, seams, and the often-mysterious collection of machine feet. With a clear and approachable teaching style, she creates a space where no question feels too small, and where learning feels both practical and enjoyable.

There’s plenty of time to ask questions, revisit the basics, and build confidence at your own pace. Whether you’re completely new to sewing or simply looking to refresh your skills, this course is about giving you a solid foundation you can return to again and again.

By the end of the sessions, you’ll feel more confident in what your sewing machine can do and how to use it, with the knowledge to begin your own projects at home — however simple or ambitious they may be.

You’re encouraged to bring your own sewing machine so you can become familiar with it in a supportive setting, along with a basic sewing kit. We’ll provide everything else you need and will be in touch ahead of the course to help you feel prepared.

This is a calm, friendly introduction to sewing, designed to help you get started with confidence and enjoy the process from the very beginning.
