- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 30 Apr, 2026 at 04:30 pm – Thu, 30 Apr, 2026 at 06:30 pm (-05:00)
- **Event Description**: Amarillo Public Library, Amarillo Genealogical Society, and Panhandle PBS will host “Finding Your Roots: A Genealogy Open House” on Thursday, April 30th from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library.

At this free come-and-go event, the public can learn more about the Downtown Library’s rich genealogical resources and view selected Season 12 episodes of the PBS series, “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.”

Assistance will be available for the public to access genealogy resources, including online and print materials. Refreshments will also be provided.

“Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.” airs on Panhandle PBS and helps expand America’s sense of self, stimulating a national conversation about identity with humor, wisdom, and compassion. In the series, Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and a team of genealogy specialists explore the ancestry of influential people, taking viewers deep into the past to reveal the connections that bind us all.

At the Open House event, attendees will have the chance to watch two new “Finding Your Roots” episodes. In “American Dreams,” Henry Louis Gates, Jr. helps actors America Ferrera and Darren Criss uncover their immigrant roots - telling stories of revolutionaries in Honduras, a Dutchman who helped build New York City, and a young woman from the Philippines who brought her family to California against great odds. The episode "Caribbean Roots” maps the Caribbean heritage of actors Liza Colon-Zayas and Delroy Lino - meeting women and men who crisscrossed the globe to help their families move forward, often taking enormous risks.

Several local lineage societies will also participate including:
Palo Duro Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas
Esther McCrory Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR)
Molly Goodnight Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR)
Panhandle Plains Chapter, National Society Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR)
