Artful Buzz has two fantastic stops planned for our Amagansett adverture: The historic D'Amico House and the Art Barge.STOP 1: The D’Amico House displays a diverse collection of original artwork, furnishings, and objects, collected by the Mabel and Victor D'Amico through the Museum of Modern Art and the D’Amicos’ own. Victor D'Amico was a pioneer of modern art education and the founding director of Education at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The majority of the artworks and objects displayed are by Mabel, a found object construction artist who created paintings, work in glass and wood, jewelry and clothes. This modern beach house, built in 1940, features ingenious functional aspects like cabinetry integrated beneath the stairway, unique lighting and electrical systems, sculptural door casings, and hand-glazed glass tile countertops, all designed, created, and installed by Mabel and Victor. Visitors experience profoundly Mabel and Victor’s creatively prolific lives and be delighted touring the house that overlooks scenic Gardiner's Bay.STOP 2: The Art Barge is the direct manifestation of the D'Amicos creative mission. Through the Department of Education at The Museum of Modern Art, Victor D’Amico instituted summer classes on the East End in 1955. He began the school at Ashawagh Hall in the Springs moved to an unexpected location in 1960. He transformed an old Navy barge towed from Jersey City that was beached at Napeague Harbor into a art studio and workshop space like no other!
