Meeting at 2.30pm at the Old Hall From the Knutsford gate, turn right after the Mere to the designated Old Hall parking area Have you ever been into the Tudor OLD HALL at Tatton? Here’s your chance. The old Tudor Hall, dating from between 1450 – 1520 has a  fascinating history of ownership prior to 1598,  when the Egerton family bought it. The Egertons owned Tatton Old Hall for 360 years until 1958 but chose to build and live in a new house which is now the site of the present mansion house.  During that time the Old Hall was divided up and used to house the estate workers  and for many years  stood entirely empty.  Investigative work, conservation and reconstruction has now revealed the original building hidden within this ‘accommodation’. You will see the Great Hall as it was c1475 with its beautiful ceilings and carvings – home of the Lord of the Manor and a seat of local government.  

The tour of the house will be conducted by Jon Barber – an expert on the Old Hall. Tatton Garden Society has been working with Tatton Park to recreate  a Tudor style garden to surround the Old Hall.  You will see and hear about the progress of this garden which is organised into beds for different uses such as culinary plants, medicinal herbs and scented plants for strewing on the floor. Finish off with a look around the Cruck Barn (not original) reassembled as part of a Youth Training Scheme in heritage building skills. Tea and cakes included.
