Signs of the Moorlands: part of Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival

A qualified architect and art facilitator, Martin Glover is deaf and a native British Sign Language (BSL) user. He is also an established tour guide, covering many themes relating to contemporary art and outdoor art across the UK, including Yorkshire Sculpture Park where he does walking tours in the park occasionally. Last year’s event was really memorable and we look forward to leading you on again!

Here, Martin will take you on a walking tour, Signs of Moorlands, indeed with a difference. You will explore the natural environment and have the opportunity to learn some BSL sign vocabulary. Martin will also be joined by local artist Lorna Stoddart. Lorna is the codirector of Greenwood Growth CIC, focusing on enabling people of all ages and abilities to be the best they can be by providing immersive experiences in the natural world.

Terrain
Paths are well marked, there are steps in places, there are rest points available. There is also a cafe close by serving hot food and drinks (The Ramblers Retreat).

Getting to Dimmingsdale
All roads are clearly signed for Alton Towers situated just outside the village of Alton. Dimmingsdale is situated between Alton and Alton Towers, turn off the main road at the valley bottom and follow the river Churnet past the public houses and along the Red Road.
