MORE EVENT INFO

Location: Hirundo Wildlife Refuge, Gate 3, 35 Hudson Road, Alton, Maine 04468 (MAPS BELOW)

How to prepare:

Wear layers, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a water bottle. You will need bugspray and would benefit from a headnet to use while we board and offboard the boats. You are welcome to bring snacks on this trip. We also suggest sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen.

Bathrooms:

There will be an outhouse available for use before and after the paddle. This outhouse is NOT ADA accessible as there is a step to get inside, no support railings, and it is a small space. There are no lights or running water in this outhouse, but hand sanitizer is provided.

Event Conditions:

This event will occur entirely outdoors. There is a steep decline/incline to and from the boat launch area. You will be entering and exiting the canoes with limited paddle guide assistance. This will be a casual, slow paced, paddle.

Accessibility Info:

This event will occur entirely outdoors. There is a short, grassy hill (Average slope 8.6%, maximum 16%) to and from the boat launch area. There is seating available at the top and bottom of the hill. Hirundo volunteers/staff can bring kayaks/canoes from the boatyard to the water’s edge if needed, and hold the vessel steady while entering/leaving. This will be a casual, slow-paced paddle. Single kayaks, double kayaks, and canoes are available.

Weather Policy

Hirundo will cancel a program when the weather presents unsafe conditions for participants. Hirundo reserves the right to cancel programs at any point when it is deemed unsafe. Participants will be notified of cancellations via the contact info provided at registration.

Although Hirundo thoroughly observes weather data we cannot control the weather. There may be cloud cover that prevents you from observing a full moon on the night of your paddle.

Full Moon programming (hikes, paddles) will not be canceled due to cloud coverage, and unobstructed views of the moon are not guaranteed.

The final determination for cancellation is dependent on the weather. Weather-related cancellations will be made 3 hours in advance of the program. Please check your email before traveling to Hirundo Wildlife Refuge.

Refund Policy

If Hirundo cancels a program/event a full refund will be issued to every registrant. The refund will be issued via Eventbrite and may take several days to complete. Cancellations and notice of refunds will be sent to the email provided on eventbrite at time of registration.

At this time we are unable to offer full refunds. Ticket transfers will be available upon requests made more than 5 days in advance of the program. Tickets can be transfered to other programs/events of equal or about equal value (within $5 of orginal price ticket).

Rain Date Policy

Hirundo may choose to offer an alternative rain date for some events. This date will be posted at the time of event advertising and the ticket holder commits to being available for either date. No refunds will be given to ticket holders who cannot attend the rain-date unless they request a refund more than 5 days prior to the rescheduled date.
