GODSPELL Auditions — You’re Invited!
Alton Little Theater is holding auditions for GODSPELL and we’d love to see you there. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or brand new to our stage, this is a great show to jump into. Bring your energy, your personality, and your willingness to play as an ensemble.
Audition Date and Time
Saturday, February 7
11:00 AM-2:00 PM
What to Prepare
Vocal audition: Prepare 16-32 bars of a song that shows your voice and style (musical theater preferred)
Movement: Be ready for a short movement/dance portion
Cold reads: You may be asked to read from the script
What to bring: A water bottle and any conflicts you already know about
Who Should Audition
We’re looking for performers with strong ensemble instincts who can sing, move, act, and commit fully. If you love creating moments as part of a group and aren’t afraid to take creative risks, this is your room.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Jesus
Warm, grounded presence with strong storytelling ability
Sings in multiple numbers, carries the heart of the show
Vocal: strong contemporary voice
John the Baptist / Judas
John: charismatic, magnetic leader energy early
Judas: complex, conflicted, emotionally charged later
Feature moments often include “Prepare Ye,” “Save the People”
Vocal: strong rock/MT tenor or high baritone
Ensemble
Godspell is largely an ensemble show. Performers play “the community” who become storytellers for the parables. Expect lots of group work, comedy, movement, and solo featured moments.
Ensemble Members (Disciples/Community)
Each ensemble member may receive one or more featured moments such as:
Featured solos in “Day by Day” (depending on arrangement)
“By My Side” feature
“Turn Back O Man” feature
“All for the Best” feature (with Judas/another featured singer)
“Light of the World” feature
“Beautiful City” feature
Spoken parables, comedic bits, audience interaction, physical storytelling
What we're looking for in ensemble auditions
Big personality, fearless playfulness, strong listening
Comfortable with improv-style acting and direct address
Ability to harmonize and blend, then pop forward for a feature
Movement confidence, not necessarily “trained dancer” but willing and expressive
