- **Event Name**: "Remembering Freedom" Mindfulness Meditation Retreat
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 23 Jul, 2026 at 03:00 pm – Sun, 26 Jul, 2026 at 12:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Remembering Freedom is an insight meditation silent retreat designed to help you slow down, soften, and rediscover a natural sense of ease and presence.

Over three nights and four days together, we will use the Buddha’s teachings on mindfulness and wisdom to explore the natural freedom of the heart and mind, with an emphasis on integrating practice into everyday life.

Through guided meditations, silent practice, and reflective inquiry, we will practice:
 * Letting go of mental tension and habitual patterns
 * Cultivating awareness without effort or judgment
 * Resting in stillness and clarity
 * Reconnecting with a sense of inner freedom that isn’t dependent on circumstances

This retreat is suitable for all l. The schedule will be relaxed and open, and all meditation postures (sitting, standing, lying and movement) are welcome.

Accommodation & Self-Catering
All cottages are self-contained with cooking facilities, for retreatants to self-cater throughout the retreat. The cottages are all in a peaceful hinterland setting, some cottages have ocean views. All bedding and linen including towels, sheets, blankets and pillows are provided.

Unfortunately, no vans, caravans or tent camping is possible, due to the grassed camping grounds becoming too soggy with excessive rains.

About the Teachers
Emma Pittaway and Gabrielle McMahon are delighted to be co-teaching this 3-night Retreat together.

Emma Pittaway teaches an open ‘natural awareness’ approach to vipassana (insight) meditation that emphasises meditation as a way of being in the world. She has practiced extensively in Australia and Asia over the past 25 years, primarily in the Burmese Mahasi and Shwe Oo Min lineages. She loves to inspire others to be natural, relaxed and independent in their meditation practice, and to dissolve the separation between ‘meditation’ and ‘everyday life’. Emma is a mum of two and balances meditation teaching with her work in climate resilience. She is the senior insight teacher at the Kuan Yin Meditation Centre in Lismore, NSW.

Gabrielle McMahon began practicing Meditation and Yoga Dharma in Japan over 17 years ago. The intention to deepen her meditation practice led to the discovery of Vipassana and Insight Meditation traditions 10 years ago. She is an Insight Meditation Teacher with Insight Meditation Institute and also a MMTCP graduate with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. She is a 350-hour Yoga Teacher.
Gabrielle practices in the Mahasi Sayadaw Insight tradition and is passionate about sharing Buddha's teachings with authenticity and kindness.
Gabrielle is the Co-founder and leader of Lennox Insight Meditation.

Dana (Generosity)
Dana is the 2,500-year-old practice of generosity or gift giving. In the Buddhist tradition, the dharma is felt to be of such great value that it cannot be bought or sold, it can be transmitted and received only as gift. In this spirit, Emma and Gabrielle offer their teachings as a gift. The retreat fee covers running costs only. In addition, participants are encouraged to return the gift of the teachings in the form of financial support to the teachers. Offering dana recognises the efforts of the teachers and enables the teachings to continue. A Dana (donation) box will be placed inside the meditation hall for donations to support the teachers. Details for offering dana will be provided at the conclusion of the retreat.
