Ride the Narrow Gauge railway back to World War I!
Duration:
1.5 hours
About The Experience:
Board your train at Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) for a 75 minute steam-powered ride through the pine forests, farmlands and hamlets of the Sheepscot Valley to Trout Brook. After a short layover to allow the locomotive to "run-around" the train, we'll double-back to Alna Center for a historic surprise!
At Alna Center, Maine's 103rd Regiment Living History reenactors will be encamped. Stop in to learn about the 3rd Maine Regiment, which was raised as a State Guard to protect important parts of infrastructure, such as railroad facilities. Drills and activities will be ongoing throughout the weekend, with a special emphasis placed on how civilians on the home front were affected by and contributed to the war effort.
After our layover at the WWI encampment, we'll return back to Sheepscot station where you'll want to explore our railyard, examine our displays, and peruse our gift shop
Ticket price includes the steam train ride, admission to the WWI encampment, as well as parking at Sheepscot.
Note that passengers requiring extra assistance, including those in wheelchairs can be accommodated on this train (however, detraining at Alna Center to view the encampment may be a challenge.) Well-behaved dogs are allowed at the discretion of the Conductor.
During the Reenactment, trains depart from Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) at 11a, 1p, and 3p on Saturday May 17 and Sunday May 18.
Saturday Afternoon Photographer and Enthusiast Special:
At 3pm on Saturday, a special train will bring photographers and history buffs on an in-depth, immersive experience. The 103rd Regiment will join our select group for a series of scenes and “run-bys” along the railway, including an extended stay at the encampment for a special presentation on WWI history. Passengers are strongly encouraged to dress in vintage style clothing. The special will return to Sheepscot at approximately 5:30pm.
We look forward to seeing you on the narrow gauge!
