Join us for a rural skills session at Walltown Country Park. The day will be practical and hands on and led by experienced National Park Rangers.
In the morning you will learn about the history of hedge laying, the importance of hedges as a habitat and have a go at laying a small section of hedge, using traditional tools. In the afternoon, you will support rangers to install a gate, learning about working with timber, installation techniques and tools.
This event is suitable for people aged 18 – 30 or people over the age of 30, considering a career change into the environmental sector.
Timings: 10am – 3.30pm
Capacity: 4 places available. This is a free event, however, booking is essential due to limited spaces.
The day will involve a degree of physical exertion and lifting, bending and kneeling. The day will be spent outdoors. Please wear/bring sturdy boots, warm layers, hat, waterproof trousers and jacket (waterproofs can be provided by us if required). Please also bring a packed lunch, snacks and drinks.
Meet us at the visitor centre at Walltown Country Park. There are toilets available at the site, but the visitor kiosk will be closed.
Free parking – parking passes will be provided for the day
