Fair Isle Knitting - Next Steps - Steeks.
A set of two workshops, Tuesday 27th January and 10th February, 6.30-8.30pm, cost £58.00, must be booked and paid for in advance.
An extra workshop on 3rd February (cost £20.00) may be available for anyone who is struggling with knitting Fair Isle.
Learn some techniques used in Fair Isle and other knitting. We will be working on a small project, a pair of cute Valentine mug cosies, but using the same techniques that are used on full-sized Fair Isle cardigans and jerseys.
We’ll cover how to make and cut steeks, and discuss when and how to reinforce the cut edge, and try out one or two of the methods. We’ll look at how to pick up stitches from the steek, and knit ribbing with buttonholes. We’ll also cover corrugated ribbing.
Please note - there’s a gap of two weeks between the first and second workshop to allow you to complete the knitting part of the mug cosies at home, so we can do the steeking part in the second workshop. (Steeking is where you cut vertically through your knitting, very useful for knitting cardigans, for example, or two identical projects at the same time.)
You will need to bring a 3.25mm x 40cm circular needle, or 3.25mm double ended needles, whichever you prefer. On the last workshop you’ll also need a 3mm or 3.5mm crochet hook, and a darning needle if you have one. All wool, patterns and buttons provided, and light refreshments.
