Emily Wilson’s translation of the Iliad is the first made with the specific aim of preserving the verse of the original while making it more accessible & eliminating sexism that crept into prior translations. Miller’s Song of Achilles recasts the epic of Troy as a queer tragedy. We’ll discuss and dissect these vibrant approaches to this classic tale, looking at what the feminine & queer lenses add to the story over tea & nibbles!What is a reading group? It’s a little more structured than a book club and way less formal than a class. We read the text and learn from each other through discussion! For the first time, we are bundling tickets for all three sessions together, as the discussions will build on prior sessions.
