Perhaps the most famous of these dreamers was Thomas Jefferson, who saw the potential of the land to support an agricultural industry that could fund a revolution and legitimize the United States as a key member in the global economy. While Jefferson was able to inspire the beginnings of Virginia Wine production, the development of the industry he dreamed of was not accomplished in his lifetime. In fact, it wasn't until the past decade or so that Virginia wines started to truly impress wine experts from around the world. Today, as prestigious and knowledgable winemakers flock to the region, and investors fund critical improvements in technologies and facilities, we have front row seats to the development of that same industry that so many before us have worked towards.
