What is a Blue Moon?
A Blue Moon isn’t actually blue in colour. It refers to either:
• The second full moon in a single calendar month, or
• The third full moon in a season that has four full moons
It’s a rare and beautiful occurrence—hence the saying “once in a blue moon.”
Did you know the moon has mountains too?
One of the tallest is Mons Huygens, rising about 5,500 metres above the surrounding lunar surface. While it’s often called the highest mountain on the Moon, it’s more accurate to say it’s one of the tallest peaks above its surroundings.
We may not be able to climb mountains on the Moon just yet… but we can certainly admire it from a summit here on Earth.
