Akshobya Buddhist Centre is joining other non-profits and charities in Alberta in helping the environment and raising funds for their organization by cleaning a section of highway. On Sat May 2nd starting at 10 am, we will be off the cushion and cleaning the sides of our 15 km stretch of highway a little southeast of Okotoks.There will be refreshments before and after at the site. We need a minimum of 30 volunteers – anyone above 9 years old qualifies. It is a family event and youth are encouraged to help out. Highways will provide all necessary materials, including safety videos and sponsor us at $100 per km of cleaned highway.We need to have the names and contact information of all volunteers before the event so we can send you details of the location and the safety videos which are short and sweet –there are 2 at 6 min each. Highways requires that you watch these videos each year before the cleanup day so please sign up as soon as possible so we can send you all the necessary info.If you can’t attend, you can still give support by making a tax donation. Our goal is to match the Ministry of Highways payment of $1500 which would make this annual event into a super successful fundraiser.We are fundraising towards being able to move to a new location with space for a children’s class on Sunday mornings as well as living space for our resident teacher, visitors and others. We would be joining the many successful Kadampa residential centres and bringing new energy to our Centre.It is rewarding and surprisingly fun to be part of the highway cleanup.
