A National Kata Course for senior judoka of any grade will take place on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November 2025 at the Army School of Physical Training, Aldershot, Hampshire.
This 2-day kata course will cover all aspects of Nage-no-kata on the Saturday, and all aspects of Itsutsu-no-kata and Katame-no-kata on the Sunday. Participants will be tutored in these kata by the internationally recognised kata expert Yoshihiko Iura-sensei – a Kodokan shidoin and 8th dan holder.
Those judoka holding an Attendance Certificate from a previously completed British Judo course in Nage-no-kata and/or Itsutsu-no-kata and/or Katame-no-kata will have the opportunity to be continuously assessed for a BJA Level 1 certificate in that particular kata on the relevant day. Subject to timings, an opportunity may be available in the late afternoon, for those wishing to take BJA Level 2, or higher, Kata Examinations in the kata taught on that specific day.
This weekend course also covers the requirements of Sections 7, 8 and 9 of the BJA Technical Dan Grade syllabus. Those participants who wish can be continuously assessed for Section 7 on the Saturday, and for Section 8 on the Sunday. An Attendance Certificate from Sunday’s Itsutsu-no-kata course satisfies the requirements for Section 9.
Those judoka not wishing to take any examinations/assessments are still very welcome to attend the course.
