Hawkeye Bowmen Archery Club members! 

You and your family members are invited to participate in the 2026 Members-Only Snowshoe Shoot!

Date:        Saturday, February 28, 2026

Time:       9 a.m. - Warming fires will be lit.

                 10 a.m. - Competition begins.

Where:    Hawkeye Bowmen (of course!)

Lunch:     Noon - hot dogs and chili 

What exactly is the Snowshoe shoot?

Besides a ton of fun, it is a timed six 3D target course set up through our woods. It is about 1⁄2 mile long. It is run on snowshoes with one arrow shot at each target. In the event of not enough snow, it will be run Seneca style (on foot). The arrows are left in the target and scored as a group as we walk back through the course. Ties are broken by fastest time on the course. We then head back to the club house to tally up scores, feast on chili and hotdogs, and then hand out prizes. 

The four classes of shooters are: 

1.   Self bow with wooden snowshoes 

2.   Traditional bows with any snowshoes 

3.   Compound bows with any snowshoes 

4.   Kids, any bow, any or no snowshoes 

The “Traveling Deer Call” will also be given a new home at this shoot. The “Traveling Deer Call” is a call that you get for one year. It comes with a journal for you to jot down your use of the call during the year. Reading the adventures the call has been on is always fun! This has been done for over a decade now! You then bring the call to the Snowshoe Shoot next year, and it will be passed on to a new participant.

As usual, volunteers will be needed for this shoot.

One volunteer to help time the shooters.

One volunteer to cook hotdogs while shooters are on course. 

Even if you are not going to shoot this year, it's an opportunity to get out of the house and come outside to cheer on the participants and have a great time!
