Science Snippet: Crane Trapping with Abraham Kanz, Director of Conservation Research at Crane Trust

In 2025, the Crane Trust initiated a donor-funded project to band and track sandhill cranes in order to better understand how they utilize the Platte River valley on their migration route. But in order to band and track cranes, you first have to catch them. Have you ever wondered how scientists safely trap and band cranes? Now is your chance to learn. Crane Trust director of conservation research will share stories from the field on the successes (and failures) of the first season of crane trapping efforts as well as continued efforts.
