About the event

Science Snippet: Crane Tracking
Science Snippet: Crane Tracking with Bethany Ostrom, Lead Biologist at Crane Trust

In March of 2025, the Crane Trust initiated a donor-funded project to band and track sandhill cranes in order to better understand how they utilize the Platte River valley on their migration route. Our team successfully caught and banded 5 sandhill cranes… and watched as they continued their journey northward into Canada, Alaska, and even Siberia–then returned in the Fall to fly south for the winter. Now they are on their way back again. What have we learned from watching them for a year? Come find out. Crane Trust lead biologist Bethany Ostrom will lead you on the journey of where our five cranes have been… and where this project will go next.
