Matt Reed is an accomplished historian, museum curator, and cultural preservationist currently serving as the Historic Preservation Officer for the Pawnee Nation of
Oklahoma. A proud member and Head Chief of the Chaui Band of the Pawnee Nation, Matt has dedicated his career to preserving and interpreting Native American history and heritage.

He holds both a Master of Arts in Museum Studies (1998) and a Bachelor of Arts in American History (1996) from Oklahoma State University, where his academic work focused on American Indian history and the development of a Pawnee cultural center.

Matt’s professional journey spans over two decades, including key roles at the Oklahoma Museum of History where he served as Curator of Firearms and later as Curator of American Indian and Military History Collections. His curatorial achievements
include exhibits such as Hidden Voices, Coded Words, which explored the contributions of Native American code talkers, and collaborative projects with the Chickasaw and Caddo Nations.

In addition to his museum work, Matt has contributed to scholarly publications and digital platforms, including articles in The Chronicles of Oklahoma and blog posts for the
Oklahoma History Center. He is also a contributing writer for several history-focused social media pages.

Matt is a seasoned presenter, known for his engaging living history demonstrations and educational PowerPoint presentations on topics ranging from Pawnee Scouts and buffalo culture to U.S. military history and Native material culture. His work has been
featured at national parks, heritage sites, and museums across the region. He is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums, the Oklahoma Council on
Indian Education, and multiple living history associations. His training includes specialized courses in heritage preservation, ground-penetrating radar, and museum mountmaking.

Through his leadership, scholarship, and public engagement, Matt Reed continues to be a vital advocate for the preservation and interpretation of Indigenous history.
