# Event Details - **Event Name**: Slip-Dipping Clay - **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 08 Nov, 2025 at 11:00 am – Sun, 09 Nov, 2025 at 03:00 pm - **Event Description**: A two day workshop to make your own ceramic artworks and/or functional wares using the slip-dip technique.About this EventSlip-dipping - also known as burnout - is a technique of making ceramics whereby a combustible material (such as fabric or paper) is dipped in clay slip. When fired, the material burns away but the ceramic retains its shape and texture.In this two day workshop, you will make your own ceramic artworks and/or functional wares using the technique. You will have the opportunity to work with stoneware, porcelain, and pigments for staining slip.Slip-dipping works well with certain fabrics, and if you have your own fiber work or materials (such as knitting or crochet) that you would like to slip-dip, you are more than welcome to bring them along! Note: you will be able to pick up your fired pieces the following week and will have the opportunity to have your pieces glazed in clear glaze.WhenSaturday, November 8: 11a - 3pSunday, November 9: 11a - 3pWhereThis class will be indoors in our Dining Hall in the main Harwood Building; 1114 7th St. NW 87102.Accessibility: Harwood is a 1925 registered historic building. The Dining Hall is fully ADA accessible, via a ramp to our main entrance. Access to the darkroom is limited. From our main entrance the darkroom is accessible via two sets of stairs; from a private entrance, available upon request, accessible via one set of stairs. General parking is available on the South side of the building in a lit lot; accessible parking is reserved in front of the main entrance. Armless chairs are available in the Dining Hall. Bathroom access is down the hall from the Dining Hall.WhoYOU are welcome!This class is open to adults ages 18 and up, teens under the age of 18 with parent permission (please email hallee@harwoodartcenter.org). This workshop is appropriate for people of all experience levels.What to BringA $30 materials fee is also required to attend the class. You will bring $25 cash or check to the instructor on the first day of the workshop.Illness PolicyIf you are feeling ill, please do not come to this class. This class is held in a large indoor space, participants are welcome to wear masks.Questions?If you have any questions please email hallee@harwoodartcenter.orgRefund PolicyClass Fee refunds will be issued on a case-by-case basis, Harwood will retain a 10% administrative fee.
