Exploring Universal Healthcare Coverage
CommonSpirit St. Joseph's Children is inviting key stakeholders to collaborate on a groundbreaking initiative: establishing universal healthcare coverage in New Mexico, potentially funded by the state's robust and growing Sovereign Wealth Funds. They propose a two-phase plan, involving reallocating "surplus" funds and amending the constitution to define healthcare as a beneficiary, followed by the creation of a single, comprehensive "Medicaid-like" healthcare entity for all residents. This ambitious vision aims to address current healthcare challenges, stimulate economic growth, and ensure equitable access to quality care without relying on state general funds or new taxes. An exploratory meeting is scheduled for December 3rd to discuss the vision, gather insights, and begin shaping policy recommendations.
