Workshop: Cast a white metal Nativity Set

Activities:
Each participant will cast and finish their own 9- figurine white metal Nativity Set (as pictured) to take home. Using vulcanized two-part rubber moulds and low melting point white metal alloy.
The Nativity Set can be used for Christmas decoration in the spirit of the Christmas season, or will make a valuable gift to family or friends. You will also master a new hobby of white metal casting within a few hours. Make potential friends sharing the same hobby interest and enjoy the accomplishment of casting your own white metal figurines.
Presenter:
Johannes Rademeyer is skilled in white metal casting with more than 20 years’ experience. He specializes in casting white metal chess sets as a hobby. Author of white metal casting online publications since 2016.
Participant requirements:
Everybody of 14 years and older including men and women. No casting experience is required, just the willingness to master a new hobby. Please ensure that you are healthy to complete the 4 -hour workshop.
Number of participants
Restricted to a maximum of 9 participants. If more than 9 participants have booked, another workshop will be arranged before Christmas 2025.
Payment:

Workshop include:
Coffee, tea, rusks, light pizza lunch and cold drinks. Nativity set to keep valued more than the workshop cost.
Cancellation:
Cancellations in unforeseen circumstances will be accepted and will be refunded as the intention is to teach participants a new hobby and not to make a quick buck through cancellations. Please ensure that there are no booking conflicts before you commit to the workshop.
Workshop format:
Demonstration of white metal casting and finishing techniques. Practical casting will be prioritized over theory. Each participant will cast one of the nine figurines and will then rotate moulds to cast another figurine until the whole Nativity Set is complete. Safety will be a priority. Workstations and tools will be shared by no more than 3 participants to prevent possible accidents.
Time management:
Please be at the venue at 08:45 for everybody to start on time at 09:00. Although there will be a steady pace to cast each figurine of the Nativity Set, you will not be rushed. If a figurine fails to cast correctly the first time, it will be a learning opportunity to recast it until it is perfect. Failed castings can be re-melted.
There will be a tea break at 10:00, body breaks as required and lunch at 13:00. You can cast until all 9 of your figurines are complete for the Nativity set, even after lunch.
Clothing requirement:
Wear comfortable old clothing like full-length jeans and a long-sleeved cotton shirt. Wear close shoes. Protective equipment will be provided.
Material and equipment:
All white metal alloy ingots required, personal protective equipment, casting equipment, tools and materials will be provided. This is for the use of participants during the workshop and may not be removed from the premises. Should you wish to continue with this hobby, further information will be provided about purchasing equipment at a discounted price.
Refreshments:
Coffee, tea and rusks at arrival 08:45 to 09:00 and tea break at 10:00 to 10:15
Light lunch of pizza and cold drinks at 13:00 until finished. Provide your dietary requirements and allergies before the workshop to cater for your specific needs.
Due to safety measures no food and drinks may be brought into the workshop area during casting.
