Description:

Are you a mental health therapist working with children and adolescents? Have you ever found yourself in the challenging position of helping traumatized children recover and thrive, with sleepless nights filled with doubt? If you're seeking an effective and enjoyable approach, look no further.

Join us in Minnesota for our annual PLAY THERAPY conference. This year, our presenter, Jackie Flynn, EdS, LMHC-S, RPT-S, specializes in Trauma, Play Therapy, and Nervous system applications in Play Therapy. Jackie makes learning experiential and playful, ensuring participants gain practical insights by doing.

During this conference, you'll explore ways to recognize and treat the aftermath of traumatic stress through the reciprocity of PLAY. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the profound wisdom of the body and the therapeutic benefits of attuned movement, nature in play therapy, and sound. This will enhance your understanding of what supports a deep sense of safety in Play Therapy through relationships. By prioritizing safety and the reciprocal nature of play in therapy, you can facilitate profound healing, even in the most challenging circumstances following trauma, thanks to the safety and connection provided by PLAY THERAPY.

In this conference, we'll demystify the theory's complexities, deepen our understanding of the human condition, and actively engage in PLAY THERAPY applications that are not only effective but also FUN!

This MINNESOTA ASSOCIATION FOR PLAY THERAPY conference is set to leave an enduring impact. Throughout the event, you'll delve into Case Conceptualization through the neuroscience lens, experiencing the therapeutic powers of play first-hand through the activities embedded in the training. Together, we'll embrace playful practice, bolstering your confidence and competence as a play therapist. You'll also gain valuable insights on how to support parents, caregivers, educators, and families, leaving a positive legacy for future generations. To further support your post-conference work, you'll receive a digital "Clinician's Reciprocity of Play Tool Kit" in the form of a downloadable workbook. This toolkit features playful animal imagery cards, visuals (Window of Tolerance, Behavior Metaphor, and Polyvagal Inspired Body Scans!), documentation examples, and more. Join us for this transformative and enjoyable experience, where we harness the therapeutic powers of play therapy to make a real difference.

Objectives:

  1. Describe how play therapy can utilize the reciprocity of play through attuned movement, sound, and nature to regulate a child's nervous system.
  2. Identify the neural pathways and brain regions involved in sensory processing during play therapy, emphasizing the role of predictability and familiarity.
  3. Discuss how play therapy integrates top-down and bottom-up approaches to promote a child's sense of safety and support integration.
  4. Explain the neuroscientific basis for using play therapy techniques that incorporate attuned movement, sound, and nature to enhance neural regulation.
  5. Demonstrate practical strategies for incorporating attuned movement, sound, and nature into play therapy sessions to support a child's nervous system regulation.
  6. Apply the knowledge of neurobiology to create play therapy interventions that foster a sense of safety, predictability, and nervous system regualtion in children and adolescents.
