Michael Lynch will give a lecture on the architectural history of the Stockbridge Congregational Church based on a book he prepared to celebrate the church’s bicentennial in 2024.

The Congregational Society of Stockbridge was founded as a mission in 1734 and over the next century built three churches, the last of which turns two hundred years old this year. The book uses architecture to tell the story of the church’s long history.

New research has uncovered previously unknown design work by several well-known architects, including Henry Dudley, a founder of the American Institute of Architects. There are stories of both tragedy and triumph and abundant illustrations, drawings and previously unpublished images.
