- **Event Description**: We want YOU to come to History Bites on July 8th! In this presentation, Kim Jardine-Dickerson will tell the story of Samuel Wilson (1766-1854), the man said to have inspired the figure of Uncle Sam. Wilson was born in Massachusetts and moved to Troy, New York as a young adult after having given his service to General Washington’s Continental Army. More than just an industrialist, he never knew how famous he would become during the American Revolutionary War, with a legacy lasting to the present day. Legend, hero, and family man, Wilson was an unforgettable part of American history.  

About the presenter: Kim Jardine-Dickerson is a retired professor of nursing at Idaho State University, where she taught psychiatric and public health nursing. As a psychiatric nurse and a drug and alcohol counselor, she has worked in adult and adolescent prisons and jails, inpatient and outpatient services, and adult protection and consultation. She serves as the president of Upper Valley Idaho National Alliance on Mental Illness and is a longtime advocate for mental health consumers and families. Kim is also an avid researcher of genealogy, and is a member of several genealogical groups and societies, including Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Daughters of ‘98, Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Linn Genealogical Society. In her personal life, Kim enjoys spending time with her husband Mike Dickerson and their dog Franklin, and is a fan of baseball, soccer, and football.
