She has shared her passion for African American history throughout the years and has been instrumental in creating programs for youth in the Capital Region, working tirelessly as a volunteer and activist. The Albany Institute of History & Art mounted an exhibit of her work entitled "Nell Stokes: Stories Education Advocate" in 2024 An oral interview with Nell is on the Institute’s website:albanyinstitute.org.She is featured in the Siena College documentary "Journey to Freedom", honoring veterans of the Civil Rights Movement.
