- **Event Description**: The CineMask Association for Artistic Production launches the first edition of the “Ali Baba” International Festival for Narrative Short Films and Arts — a festival founded by filmmaker Ali Assadi, the founder of CineMask and the one who conceived the idea of giving the event the name “Ali Baba.” Assadi also named the association “CineMask” to represent a creative fusion between cinema and theatre.

Ali Assadi was born in Old Acre in 1982 and is one of the city’s devoted sons who carried its artistic and cultural mission on their shoulders. He dedicated a significant part of his life to preserving the heritage and human spirit of Acre, and directed several films depicting the life of the Old City, its alleys, and its people. Assadi is considered one of the most active, passionate, and influential contributors to the cinematic scene in the city, and one of its greatest admirers — a city that shaped his creative identity and artistic journey.

The festival will take place in Old Acre from December 25 to 27, 2025, and over the course of three days, audiences will enjoy diverse screenings of narrative short films, artistic performances, and live encounters with directors and actors. This will be accompanied by a festive opening ceremony and a closing event during which the awards will be announced in an elegant artistic atmosphere. The name “Ali Baba” is inspired by three symbolic sources carrying one message: the popular Ali Baba Cinema in Bulaq, Cairo, which made art accessible to the poor at symbolic prices; the tale of Ali Baba from One Thousand and One Nights, in which the treasure is shared with those in need; and the historic Ali Baba Hall in Acre, which hosted artistic and cinematic events in the 1960s. From this rich heritage, the CineMask Association believes that art is the true treasure — one that must be shared with everyone, regardless of their culture or identity.

The festival aspires to make Old Acre an international artistic hub that brings together creators from around the world, believing that cinema is an aesthetic and human language capable of spreading values of diversity, tolerance, and beauty, and of building a new awareness that connects peoples and communities.
