Jocelyn will share her experience of sculpting and casting Big Red and his late jockey Ron Turcotte. Hear about her 5000-mile trek with the monument to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Secretariat’s Triple Crown in 2023 at racetracks nationwide. This event allows the opportunity to meet both artist and author, to view and purchase artwork in the "Over Land and Sea" exhibition, and a signed copy of "Secretariat’s Meadow." Generously sponsored by Anne Campbell Presenters: Author Kate Chenery Tweedy is the daughter of Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery, and granddaughter of his breeder, Christopher Chenery. She grew up visiting her family’s farm, The Meadow, in Doswell, VA, where Secretariat was born and raised. As a college student, she was at her mother’s side in 1973 when Secretariat demolished the field in all the Triple Crown Races and set records that still stand today. As her mother grew older, Kate had the pleasure of escorting her to racing events all over the country. Kate and Penny both consulted on the Disney script for the 2010 movie, Secretariat, and both were extras in the Belmont scene. In 2023-4, Kate helped lead the team that brought to Virginia a magnificent larger-than-life bronze statue of Secretariat by Jocelyn Russell. Sculptor Jocelyn Russell Jocelyn Russell was born and raised in the San Luis Valley in beautiful Colorado. The youngest of five children, she was allowed to join her mother in the studio after the older kids were sent off to school. Jocelyn dabbled in all forms of art materials. At age 12, she landed a job with a local veterinarian. She worked her way up into a hands-on position, participating in all aspects of the business, including assisting during surgeries. It was the highlight of her youth, and after 14 years on the job, her love of animals and anatomy was cemented. Beginning art as a full-time career in 1992, her paintings and bronzes have since generated thousands of dollars for conservation organizations. Sculpting nearly full-time now, she works on pieces from miniature to monumental and continues to gain both national and international recognition for her work. - **Event URL**: https://allevents.in/aiken/celebrating-secretariat-in-story-and-in-bronze/200029085835906 - **Event Categories**: art, literary-art, kids, sports, exhibitions, trips-adventures, entertainment, trekking, fine-arts - **Interested Audience**: - total_interested_count: 34 ## Ticket Details ## Event venue details - **city**: Aiken - **state**: SC - **country**: United States - **location**: 122 Laurens St SW, Aiken, SC, United States, South Carolina 29801 - **lat**: 33.56057 - **long**: -81.72229 - **full address**: 122 Laurens St SW, Aiken, SC, United States, South Carolina 29801 ## Event gallery - **Alt text**: Celebrating Secretariat in Story and in Bronze - **Image URL**: https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events3/banners/8cc5366a5c92c65964ad3dea3272b7f3d264b3ada1ecfee49840e1e887ff53ca-rimg-w1080-h344-dcfefefe-gmir?v=1763047859 ## FAQs - **Q**: When and where is Celebrating Secretariat in Story and in Bronze being held? - **A:** Celebrating Secretariat in Story and in Bronze takes place on Thu, 13 Nov, 2025 at 06:00 pm to Thu, 13 Nov, 2025 at 08:00 pm at 122 Laurens St SW, Aiken, SC, United States, South Carolina 29801. - **Q**: Who is organizing Celebrating Secretariat in Story and in Bronze? - **A:** Celebrating Secretariat in Story and in Bronze is organized by Aiken Center for The Arts. - **Q**: Who is this event for?
