Japanese violinist Risa Hokamura, whose playing has been praised as "both powerful and reflective, sweet and steely," will join us for Brahms' exquisite Violin Concerto. The work, originally thought to be unplayable due to its great difficulty, was composed for Brahms' dear friend, Joseph Joachim, a towering virtuoso of his day - and the owner of Stradivarius, on which Hokamura will perform. The concerto is paired with the Rhenish Symphony by one of Brahms' other great friends, Robert Schumann.
