Program Description:
Dive into the world of Mid Century Modern design with our Funky Footstool Workshop. In this two-day course, you'll learn the foundational skills of woodworking and upholstery by constructing a replica of the Mid Century Modern footstool designed by Victor Wilkins. This project is perfect for beginners looking to gain hands-on experience in both crafts.
On the first day, you'll start by cutting and shaping the base of your stool using the bandsaw and spindle sander. Learn how to read wood grain and lay out templates to maximize the strength of your stool, all while learning the fundamentals of machine room safety. Assembly of the base will be done using a Festool Domino, giving the stool maximum stability.
The second day is dedicated to upholstery, where you’ll create a cushion using wrap-and-staple methods. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of upholstery materials and tools.
We have a variety of upholstery fabrics you can choose from to personalize your footstool. If you would like to bring your own fabric, you will need 1 yard.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with a funky, handcrafted Mid Century Modern footstool, equipped with the skills and confidence to tackle more woodworking and upholstery projects.
The base of your stool will be made in cherry. Upgrade to walnut for an additional $25.
