John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new

Join us on North Terrace to celebrate the opening of ‘John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new’.
This first major Australian survey of John Mawurndjul's work assembles more than 160 paintings and sculptures from collections worldwide. Mawurndjul has been celebrated internationally for his innovative bark paintings and the radiance of their meticulous rarrk (cross-hatching).
Official proceedings will be held on the Art Gallery of South Australia forecourt including a Kaurna Welcome to Country and a performance by Ripple Effect Band from Maningrida, central Arnhem Land.
Entertainment to follow in the Gallery courtyard. The exhibition will remain open until 9pm.
‘John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new’ is developed and co-presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) and the Art Gallery of South Australia, in association with Maningrida Arts & Culture. Presented as part of TARNANTHI in partnership with BHP and with the support of the Government of South Australia.
Refreshments are available for purchase. This is a public event, all are welcome.
