Come join us for the seventh edition of Splash Inn! Our guest speaker Yvie Eglinton will share her story about resilience, leadership and lived experience as she continues to shape a future where nature truly belongs to everyone.

Meet Yvie Eglinton — a disability advocate, nature lover, and mother who is helping transform South Australia’s parks into places everyone can experience and enjoy.

March 31, 2009, is a date Yvie Eglinton will always remember. It was the day her life changed forever, and the beginning of a journey that would redefine her purpose. A cycling accident resulted in a spinal cord injury, making Yvie a full-time wheelchair user and requiring her to reimagine a future she had planned.

Before her injury, Yvie spent more than seven years working as a marine biologist, diving on reefs and studying South Australia’s marine environment, work driven by a deep love of nature and conservation. While her time underwater came to an abrupt end, her connection to the natural world did not.

Yvie has since channelled her passion into creating lasting change. She has played a key role in the development and implementation of marine parks, started a family, and now leads accessibility initiatives as Coordinator, Access for All. In this role, she is helping ensure South Australia’s national parks are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to people of all abilities.

Yvie Eglinton Bio :

Yvie is a proud woman with a disability, living with a spinal cord injury and using a wheelchair full time. She acquired her disability later in life, giving her a strong understanding of life both with and without disability and reinforcing her belief that attitude is key.

Yvie is the Coordinator, Access for All at the Department for Environment and Water, where she works to ensure national parks are accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities. Her role includes developing programs and strategies that improve access for people with disability across the park network.

Prior to her accident 17 years ago, Yvie worked as a scientific diver with Marine Parks, conducting reef surveys across the state. She is passionate about using her lived and professional experience to advocate for the rights of people with disability and to promote inclusive, accessible environments for all.
