SCALA Live at the Wheaty
SCALA Live @ The Wheaty presents another night of fabulous original music!
1. Lucy Zola
Lucy Zola is a singer-songwriter based in Adelaide. Lucy has evolved a musical style which draws inspiration from the likes of Joni Mitchell and Jeff Buckley, yet which is uniquely her own. The natural warmth and richness of her voice together with her fine vocal control draw her audience right in to the mood of her songs, Accompanied by her band of talented musicians, weaving blues and jazz around her beautiful voice, the listening experience is immersive, moving and totally pleasurable.
Lucy has been playing the Adelaide bar and festival scene extensively, appearing at the Fringe festival two years running, often in conjunction with visual art exhibitions and local cultural events. She was very proud to be the recipient of the ‘Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts Prize’ for excellence in musical performance in 2018.
Lucy has been involved with Adelaide arts festivals such as Swirl Records ‘Swirl Fest’, Music SA’s ‘Umbrella, Winter City Sounds’ and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
2. Stu Day
Stu grew up in the 1970s in Mount Gambier, a country town in South East South Australia. His first instrument was his Grandmother’s piano which he tortured mercilessly until introduced to the violin in grade two. From this formal music training Stu taught himself to play guitar in various styles – rock, country, folk, fingerstyle, 12-string, slide, open tunings etc – and eventually became adept at mandolin, bass, fiddle, piano and pretty much anything with strings.
As a soloist Stu loves the power of a good song. His repertoire is broad and eclectic, ranging from crowd pleasing pop and rock hits from the last half century to deep cuts and award winning original material.
Stu has recorded around forty albums with various groups in studios large and small across the country, sometimes as a session guy, sometimes as band member and writer, and sometimes as producer.
Notable bands: FAB, The Beggars, The OC's, Blue Katz, Those Kodiaks, The Barkers, the SA Hall of Fame Band, Radics, Spank you very much and Rockola.
Stu loves to write and have some three hundred works registered with APRA in various styles and genres – songs and instrumentals.
3. Flames Trio
FLAMES is a folk pop acoustic trio consisting of Lucas Sly, Lauren Koopowitz and Alicia Hage. All three songwriters bring something different to the band in terms of both songwriting and performing, yet they all have an understanding and appreciation of pop sensibilities. Drawn together by their shared love of harmonies, the band officially formed after a jam where they discovered their voices blend in a way that is often hard to find. Telling stories filled with emotions that everyone can relate to, Flames’ songs are personal and yet relatable.
Come along and have a listen to some wonderful original artists in a great environment.
We will have a couple of 'SCALA Spotlights' to start off the night (booked in advance with a preference for SCALA members - please email c2NhbGEgfCBzY2FsYSAhIG9yZyAhIGF1 for bookings). These two lucky artists get to air two of their best or newest to that wonderfully attentive and respectful SCALA audience.
Doors open 7:30pm. Music 8pm. Entry is free to SCALA members, $5 for non-members.
