At the same time, people are finding it increasingly difficult to tell apart true and false information, reporting lower trust in journalists and mainstream media, and increasingly avoiding the news for being too negative and presenting problems they can do nothing about. I’ll present research from Adelaide University around how psychology can contribute to understanding responses to misinformation, including its connections to societal attitudes and ways we can address it. I’ll also present work on constructive journalism, which applies psychological theory and insight to news production, with an aim to produce news that is less misleading, more responsible, and less anxiety and depression invoking.Your Speaker:Dr Natasha van Antwerpen is a Lecturer in the School of Psychology at Adelaide University.
