About the Artist
--------------------
Tomoko Fuse - Origami Artist

Born in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, Tomoko Fuse is one of the world’s most influential origami artists, often celebrated as the Queen of Modular Origami. She discovered origami at the age of seven while in hospital, sparking a lifelong fascination with the art of paper folding. Since the 1980s, Fuse has pioneered modular origami - creating intricate geometric works by connecting multiple folded units - and has continued to expand the possibilities of the medium through tessellations, spirals, and knot-based constructions. Her practice bridges art, mathematics, and architecture, revealing origami’s depth beyond its traditional associations. Fuse’s installations and designs include origami-inspired objects and lighting, combining structural precision with sculptural beauty.

The author of more than 100 books translated into multiple languages, her publications are considered foundational texts in contemporary origami. Fuse’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at Milano Design Week, RMIT Design Hub Gallery, and the Echigo Tsumari Arts Triennale.
