Have you ever thought about walking in the footsteps of a famous literary character? If the answer is yes, then join Mike Whalen of the MA DCR for an enlightening summit excursion in celebration of the historic 1844 ascent of American naturalist and writer Henry David Thoreau to the summit of Mount Greylock; a prelude to Thoreau's experience at Walden Pond. This moderate 1.0-mile walk features selected readings and reenactments from Thoreau's own account. Audience participation is encouraged. Includes some elevation changes on the Appalachian Trail segment but suitable for most abilities.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 

Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes (no sandals please).
Bring water, a snack, sunscreen and bug spray. 

Meet at the bronze relief map on the summit.

Bonus points are awarded to those wearing their best straw hat!
