Dept. of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), and Peter Dudek, from Bascom Lodge, atop Mount Greylock, the most scenic, highest elevation (3,491′) and oldest wilderness state park in Massachusetts.Discover the 1930’s period of great park building when government work programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), created special places for recreation. The rustic, yet elegant, “parkitecture” of Bascom Lodge became a distinctive style that defined America’s parks. This is an interpretive walk around the summit of Mount Greylock, with an emphasis on its unique ecology and historic structures as they comprise a fully realized historic landscape; and take an insider’s tour of Bascom Lodge. NOTE–summit parking fee ($5 for Mas residents & $20 for non-residents) may apply.WALK TIME/DISTANCE: 2 hours–0.3 mile.
