- **Event Description**: The Judy & Barry DeRossi Quintet returns to the Acushnet Public Library to share songs from the Great American Songbook and more.  This program is supported in part by a grant from the Acushnet Cultural Council, a local agency that is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Barry and Judy have played together for 60 years. Barry graduated from Berklee College of Music and has performed throughout New England and Florida. Judy graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University and taught general music at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Taunton and the DeRossi Music School. She has been a vocal judge for the New England Music Festival and Competition in Boston for several years.

Elmer Drotos, tenor saxophone, clarinet & flute, hails from Pennsylvania and was a music educator. He has appeared with many bands, including Artie Shaw and Harry James, and performs throughout the country for live performances and recording sessions.

Drummer Zac Casher from Boston, Massachusetts, studied and taught at Berklee College of Music and has toured and recorded with Johnny Adams, Mighty Sam McClain, Michelle Wilson, and Julien Kasper. He plays a variety of styles and performs all over the world with a range of performers, including Gray Sargent and Marshall Wood from the Tony Bennett Band, and Erika Van Pelt of American Idol, across genres including jazz, big band, R&B, and pop. He loves it all.

Gray Sargent is a musician’s musician, having recorded and toured with some of the most recognized names in the music industry. Throughout his youth, the self-taught Sargent frequented the Boston jazz scene, not just to enjoy the talent, but also to absorb the technique of local performers. It was at the celebrated Lenny’s On the Turnpike, where Gray began a long artistic relationship with the legendary tenor saxophonist Illinois Jacquet. Over decades, the two embarked on worldwide tours and countless projects, from studio recordings to documentaries. Sargent has performed in venues and at jazz festivals throughout the world, and he has appeared and recorded with many greats traveling through Boston, including: Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Scott Hamilton, Dave McKenna, Benny Carter, Rosemary Clooney, Henry Mancini, Ray Brown, Warren Vache, Ruby Braff, Phil Woods, Jo Jones, Big Joe Turner, and many more. A Concord Jazz recording artist, Sargent is featured on several Concord releases in addition to his own recording, “Shades of Gray”.
In 1997, after hearing the guitarist perform, Tony Bennett decided to add Sargent’s talent to his trio, forming a quartet that led to a wonderful musical collaboration and mutual admiration. Sargent accompanied Tony on several Grammy-winning recordings and on performances across the globe for 24 years, until Mr. Bennett's retirement. Famed jazz critic Whitney Balliett, of The New Yorker, explained that Sargent’s “tremendous knowledge of jazz and its practitioners, combined with his own keenly defined style, makes him one of the most exciting musicians of his or any generation.”

Representatives from SRPEDD will be sharing the Acushnet Master Plan at the library on Wednesday, June 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, during the Judy & Barry DeRossi concert.  Stop by the SRPEDD tent on the back lawn to learn about the Master Plan and enjoy a treat.
