- **Event Description**: Build and use pinhole cameras to capture the movement of the sun and moon over the Calanais Standing StonesAbout this EventThis is Part 1 of a two-part workshop on solargraph photography:Solargraphs are images created from simple pinhole-style cameras that can be used to capture the course of the sun and moon. In this 2 part workshop (28 Feb & 28 Mar), led by artist Jon Macleod, you will learn how to construct a solargraph camera and use it to photograph the Calanais stones over the course of the month of March. As well as practical activities, there will be discussions of the role that light, celestial bodies and the seasons played in the design and function of the Calanais complex.Please note this booking covers the two sessions i.e. February 28th and March 28th, as outlined below:Session 1: Sat 28th Feb, 2-5pm, Island Darkroom & Calanais IIn this session we will build our solargraph cameras at Island Darkroom before composing our shots and installing them at Calanais I.Session 2: Sat 28th Mar, 2-5pm, Calanais I & Island DarkroomAfter de-rigging the cameras we will return to Island Darkroom to process and scan our images.This free event is curated by local arts organisation HAAR Projects. Design and delivery is by artists Robbie Thomson and Jon Macleod in collaboration with Urras nan Tursachan, with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. It is part of a series of activities in the "Stories of the Stones" programme this spring.
