Speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, Freeman claimed that Tehran’s global network of influence extends into Africa and is contributing to instability in the region.

According to him, the Iranian government has openly shown support for the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, citing public statements and social media posts attributed to Iran’s leadership.

Freeman said Iran’s actions are part of a broader agenda that has, for decades, involved backing militant groups and promoting hostility toward Israel and the United States.

He argued that Iran’s ballistic missile development and nuclear ambitions pose a significant threat, which Israel believes justifies its military actions aimed at preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Addressing criticism about Israel’s own nuclear capability, the ambassador maintained that Israel’s longstanding policy is not to be the first country to introduce nuclear weapons into the Middle East. He stressed that the central concern remains Iran’s stated hostility toward Israel and its alleged efforts to develop nuclear arms.

Freeman also accused Iran of supporting acts of terrorism in several regions around the world, including parts of Europe, South America and Africa. He claimed that Iranian-backed networks operate globally with the aim of spreading instability and targeting Israeli and Jewish interests.

The envoy further criticised the Iranian government’s domestic record, alleging that the regime has violently suppressed protests by its citizens.

Freeman added that Israel remains willing to strengthen cooperation with Nigeria in combating terrorism and improving security, noting that both countries share strategic ties and common interests in tackling instability.
