We are happy to present to you a rare opportunity to attend a Masterclass titled Developing the Social Capital of your Professional Network by Martin Gargiulo, the Shell Chair Professor of Human Resources Management and Organisational Development and the Area Chair, Entrpreneurship and Family Enterprise at INSEAD.

Good ideas and hard work are essential to succeed but may not be enough. You also need a good network of relationships. We all have a professional network, but not all networks are equally capable of providing the support we need to navigate difficult periods in our career and the reach that allows us to secure the cooperation necessary to get things done at work.

This master class presents research-based insights on how to grow and mobilize the social capital of your professional network. You will learn how the content, quality, and structure of your network may be an asset or a liability in your professional life, as well as ways to assess your core network of contacts and devise strategies to maintain and develop that network.

The Masterclass will take place at the INSEAD campus and will be followed by a social networking dinner at the Coya Resturant.

Date and Time: Tuesday 7th February, 6.30 - 7.30 pm masterclass followed by a networking dinner from 8.00 -10.00.
Location: INSEAD Abu Dhabi campus followed by dinner at Coya Restaurant

Martin Gargiulo
The Shell Chair Professor of Human Resources Management and Organisational Development Area Chair, Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise.

Martin Gargiulo earned his PhD in Sociology at Columbia University in the City of New York and holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology from Uruguay's national university.

Professor Gargiulo has taught MBA and executive audiences globally. His executive teaching focuses on informal networks, influence, leadership, organizational politics, organizational design, and the management of change. He created and directs the High Impact Leadership Programme at INSEAD and has conducted customized programs for high-potential managers in several leading multinational firms.

Professor Gargiulo studies the formation of social networks and their effects on performance in business organizations. His most recent paper focuses on how people transition from a professional network that helps them survive during the early stages of their careers to one that allows them to succeed. He also designed the Social Capital Questionnaire, an online assessment tool to measure the social capital of an executive’s informal network, and the Networking and Influence Simulation, an online educational game to teach MBAs and executives how to develop, maintain, and mobilize informal networks to implement organization-wide change initiatives.

Professor Gargiulo has served Associate Dean for Executive Education (2009-2011) for the Asia-Pacific region at INSEAD. He was also elected to the Executive Committee of the Organization and Management Theory division of the Academy of Management (2009-2012) and serves on the Editorial Board and Methods Advisory Panel of Administrative Science Quarterly, the leading academic publication in organization theory.
