- **Event Description**: Part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival Go Local programmeAbout this EventJoin us in Abriachan Forest for a free, drop-in family-friendly day of storytelling, folklore, art-making, music and a fairy scavenger hunt in the woods.Samhainn is a special time when the veil between our world and the fairy otherworld is said to be at its thinnest. Marking the old Celtic New Year, it is the favourite time of the Daoine Sìth – the fairy folk of Highland tradition – who emerge from their dwellings to revel and dance to the music of the fiddle and pipes. These are not wee winged creatures, but ancient guardians of the land: they remind us that kindness brings kindness, and taking only what we need keeps the world in balance. We’ll hear old stories, discover some of the places the fairies are said to inhabit, and listen to fairy music – including tunes said to have been learned from the fairies themselves! We'll do some nature art-making and follow a fairy scavenger hunt through the trees, looking closely at the plants, creatures and other treasures of the autumn forest. We’ll also gather small gifts from nature to leave for the fairies as a thank you for watching over the land and its creatures as we move into the dark half of the year. The day features:Storytelling with Caoimhe Keohane of Wild Anam whose work explores connections between mythology and the natural worldMusic and conversation with Dr Tiber Falzett, visiting musician and folklorist, sharing stories and pipe tunes connected with the fairy traditionArt-making with Katie Barr using natural materials from the forestTraditional music session led by Emily MacDonaldForest exploring with Abriachan's Ranger Ewan Fenelon, identifying the plants, creatures and signs of autumn in the forest.Hosted by Mairi McFadyen as part of ‘Songs, Stories and Stewardship’, a creative project exploring culture, nature and our relationships with the places we live, supported by Creative Scotland. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events8/banners/5a4cfcb0-bf80-11f1-b2f0-89ce03a8b09a-rimg-w523-h740-dcd8c898-gmir.jpg
